Welcome to Part two of my affiliate marketing secrets blog series and in this post I am going to be talking about the power of building a list and how it can supercharge your marketing efforts.
I do things the way I do because they have worked for me in the past, however, I am not the bible of affiliate marketing and there are lots of people out there that do things a whole lot different than me so just take what information you want from me and use it how it best suits you.
Furthermore, I am not a teacher; I am an affiliate marketer so you have to bear with me because I may miss things and skip over things so if you do want more information to just ask in the comment box below, and I will do my best to answer the questions you may have :-)
Ok so let’s get started….
The most successful affiliate marketers out there have their very own highly targeted opt in mailing lists, and I have to say that I was very lazy when I got started in affiliate marketing because I didn’t start building a list until only a few years ago.
With me not building a list is one of my biggest online marketing mistakes, but it is not all bad because I learnt about search engine optimization and I still made a lot of money without a list so don’t worry if you haven’t got a list yet. I often wonder how much more money I would have in the bank if I had a fully fledge email list that I started when I started…lol Ah well never mind :-)
Since you are driving all the traffic to the affiliate program then its a good idea to use your list to its full advantage because you get to use your list repeatedly. What if you sent 100 visitors to your affiliate offer and then only 1 out of the 100 bought, the product or service what happens to the other 99 that didn’t take you up on the offer? Well, the fact is you have lost them forever unless you managed to capture their contact details.
So what you need to do now is before sending the visitor directly to the affiliate offer page you need to create an opt in page where you can capture their name and email and then from there you send them on to either your presell page or straight to the affiliate offer. So if they decide not to buy the product, you can send them reminders about the product or simply offer them similar products. This will put you in front of your subscribers and by helping them they will remember you.
The next thing that you are probably asking is. How do you catch and subsequently email the subscribers without getting into trouble and keeping the right side of the law?
Well as always I will only tell you about products and services that I have used or do use so here it is. I use Aweber to handle my email marketing campaigns. I find them fairly cheap to use and also Aweber is very simple to set up and get rolling.
You will need to create a sequence of emails you would like to send out. So for example if you are an affiliate for blue widgets, then you would create a sequence of say seven emails that all gave a bit of information about blue widgets but also discusses red widgets and green widgets and through that email, you would recommend a place to buy these widgets and of course this is where you would put your affiliate links.
You have probably seen aweber in action, just take a look at this site you can see the optin form in the sidebar, and you can see another form at the bottom of this page and on your first visit to the site, you would have seen a lightbox fade and that is all using aweber.
Building a list is by far one of the most important things you can do and the sooner you start doing it the better, and although there are free email autoresponder services available out there I am perfectly happy with what I get from aweber.
So that was today’s secret… although it’s not really a secret, I strongly recommend that you get an autoresponder sorted out.
If you have any questions, then, please use the comment form below, and I will do my best to answer them as quickly as possible.
